Birthday Girl requested a Trolls birthday party theme; we decided to try Trolls-lite. My girl was turning 5, and she loved the new Trolls movie at the time. I struggled with this request a little, because Trolls was not (and still isn’t) particularly the aesthetic I personally gravitate towards. But who was I to say no to this birthday request? So I went for it, and tried to temper the colorfulness with neutrals. We had the party at our favorite local childrens’ play gym which we love precisely for its calm and Scandinavian-inspired interiors.
After the kids ran around playing, we had them pause to decorate cupcakes. The sprinkles were distributed in mini paint palettes, one for each child. We spent a lot of time baking and frosting (shout-out to my sister-in-law) and setting up for this activity. The kids decimated it in about 5 seconds flat, or so it seemed.
If you look closely at the table, you’ll see we also decorated with lollipops covered in tulle (to resemble trolls hair – see link here.) I found the printable paper Trolls figures on Dreamworks’ website, but I don’t see them any more on their site, which is unfortunate.
The dessert table had some pre-decorated cupcakes with Trolls toppers, sprinkle Oreo pops (link here) and Rice Krispie treats with a layer of Fruity Pebbles on top. (Made as you would regular Rice Krispie treats, and were surprisingly popular amongst the partygoers!) We made the tissue paper flowers as well – there are lots of sites online with step-by-step instructions.
The goodie bags were filled with Trolls-theme items from the party store; I had a three-month old at the time, and this was my idea of “taking it easy!”
Looking at these photos I wish it was a little more cohesive in terms of color scheme – there’s a lot going on! Live and learn. Also, I have a lot of pink and blue tulle left – what to make with them? Suggestions welcome! That said, there’s a new Trolls movie set to be released in April 2020 – Trolls World Tour. If I get another request for a Trolls Birthday Party, I’ll be ready!
