A Frozen Party for Little Dancers

Of all the movies I’ve seen in my life, there is no one movie I’ve seen more than Frozen (and usually in Korean, at that.) Fellow parents, I’m sure I’m not alone in this! My daughter was crazy for Frozen. Naturally, her third birthday had to be a Frozen party. In honor of Frozen 2 in theaters today, here’s a throwback post on her little Frozen party at the dance studio.

At the time, she was taking toddler ballet classes at a local childrens’ dance studio, and they offered themed parties for kids, including Frozen. They provided some dance instruction, costumes, and a craft. At the end of the party, the kids could take home a tutu and tiara or foam sword and shield.

We provided pizza and snacks. Though it’s not easy to see in these pictures, I cut some of the melons into floral shapes using a small cookie cutter. I’d call them snowflakes, but that’s a bit of a stretch. Kids all seem to love the tiny champagne grapes. The grocery store doesn’t always carry them, and they generally don’t seem to keep very long. But, we eat them so quickly it’s usually not an issue. Next time, I’d cut them into smaller clusters.

I made the marshmallow pops because they’re easier than making cake pops (ha!) but just as pretty. It’s so simple with just jumbo marshmallows and crystal sprinkles. Actually, if I recall correctly, I probably dipped the marshmallows in white chocolate, but as I see in this tutorial, it’s not necessary (and the kids certainly don’t need the extra sugar!)

Frozen cake

I was determined to scale back on this birthday, so I kept it simple with a grocery store cake, versus a custom cake. I wish it had a little more…oomph, but really, it was fine.

Disney Mickey Mouse balloon

True story, the Mickey Mouse balloon was actually from Disney World. We had just returned from a vacation there with extended family. And in fact, it was on this trip that 6 adults, and 2 teenage boys stood in line for over an hour, just so my daughter could meet Elsa and Anna. (After that, we got smart, split up and learned to use the FastPass!)

The grandparents purchased this balloon, and it impressively held up the entire week we were in Florida. When it was time to go, our daughter desperately wanted to bring it home. But, there was no way we could bring it on the plane. So we carefully deflated it and packed it in our bags. When we returned home, we took it to a party store to re-inflate it. It didn’t last nearly as long, but it was a nice memory to have at the party.

Frozen dance costume

At the ripe old age of 6, my daughter decided that she was too old for princesses. Therefore, we haven’t seen the original Frozen in about a year or so. We recently showed it to her again, to jog her memory in preparation for Frozen 2. She was enthralled. She understood much more of the movie, and was able to follow the storyline much better than she did as a three year old. Maybe she’s not too old for brave, smart princesses after all. Who’s excited for Frozen 2?
