Hand lettered envelopes – early attempts

Here’s a small medley of early hand lettered envelopes I addressed in a variety of styles (experiments, if you will.) If it isn’t clear, I’ll just say it right now – I’m not a “professional” calligrapher or hand letterer. Nor am I a professional photographer! I look at these now and wish I could change a lot, either with the lettering itself, or with how I took the picture. At this point, I am more of a tinkerer in this field, but we all have to start somewhere, right?

When I took these photos, it was purely for my own records. I never imagined I’d a. start a blog and b. share these pictures. However, I was inspired by this post at The Postman’s Knock. I’m hoping my skills improve over time; I wish I could fast forward into the future and have “after” pictures to display here now as well. If you’re just getting started as well, let’s do this. Check back later to see if my hand lettered envelopes (and their photos) get better!

(For those who are curious, these were all done with regular pens. I do have a nib, holder, and ink but I’m finding them a little intimidating to use. Perhaps I’ll have a future post on my initial attempts at using these tools!)
